Jane Orwell

Artist Profile

Jane Orwell began her artistic journey as a mature student when she joined a creative access course in 2000 in parallel with her nursing career in cancer care.  She continued studying Fine Art as a part time student graduating from Kent Institute of Art and Design in 2008. She moved forward to lead on arts in health projects for East Kent Hospitals until her retirement from the NHS in 2013.  She has since continued with her art practice and has participated in a number of collaborative projects and has exhibited her work locally in galleries and museums.  She currently works part time for Canterbury Museums and Galleries where she continues to champion the role of the arts for health and wellbeing.
Jane works both from home and at Hold Creative Spaces studios in Ramsgate, a space which has recently opened up new connections and inspiration for new work.  She believes that being a student of art never stops and constantly looks to other artists and art to inform and inspire her work.  Now in her sixties, she works with more determination to explore the possibilities of her creative practice.
